Dr. Masha Baraza is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, legal practitioner and academic passionate about promoting access to justice through juridical institutional reform and capacity building. Dr. Baraza is particularly interested in researching and understanding the relationships between ‘legalities’ and society in conflict and development contexts. In that regard, his doctoral research investigated the plurality of socio-legal responses to group conflict in Turkana County; a critical analysis that sought to foster a more substantive understanding of the diverse utility and manifestations of law towards enhancing the provision and attainment of social justice and public goods.
Since June 2014, Dr. Baraza has served as Legal Counsel in the Office of the Deputy Chief Justice. Prior to joining the Office of the Chief Justice, Dr. Baraza was a Lecturer at the Strathmore University School of Law and the Substantive Editor of the Law, Social Justice, and Global Development Electronic Law Journal at the University of Warwick. Dr. Baraza holds PhD and LLM degrees from the University of Warwick, an LLB from the University of Sheffield, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law.
